Enjoying Life

Elderly people have lived full and exciting lives and have a lot of wisdom and experience to share. It is truly wonderful when they keep in close contact with their children and grandchildren. And it is really sad when they don’t have anyone to share it all with in their life.

MacPaw is a long-time partner of the Enjoying Life charitable foundation. They dedicate their work to helping the seniors who are living alone or struggling physically or financially. The foundation has many different projects, and we are glad to support some of them.

One of the projects is “Enjoying Life: Lunch” – a chain of booths in different locations in Kyiv providing free hot lunches for Ba and Di. What’s that, you may ask? It’s the cute names kids in Ukraine might call their grandparents. That’s how the foundation refers to those they help, and it indicates how much care and affection go into their daily work.

Our company has supported the project by sponsoring two booths for the “Enjoying Life: Lunch” locations, and so have the macpawians. We encourage our colleagues to volunteer in the locations and to serve lunches to the seniors. By now, almost all of them have probably contributed their time to this good cause.

Help during the pandemic

When the pandemic hit, the locations had to close temporarily for safety reasons. But the project transformed into targeted grocery deliveries to the lonely Grandmas and Grandpas. We have purchased more than 8400 grocery kits for these deliveries. Some of the elderly who received these kits live in the Chornobyl exclusion zone. Before the pandemic, these people received some support from the local administration, but the Covid times made life more difficult for them. Such deliveries can sometimes be the only aid they receive and their only form of contact with the outside world.

Coursers for seniors

Another problem the seniors are facing is the lack of quality pastime activities. Many things are now youth-oriented, and Grandmas and Grandpas simply do not have many options. And many of them are active and enthusiastic people who want to learn new things and gain new experiences. That’s why we organized English lessons and computer courses for seniors. And we also purchased Nordic walking poles for those of the elderly who are not ready to part with sports just yet.

Taking care of the lonely and the elderly is a sign of a healthy and able community. We are happy that such foundations exist and happy to support their work. And we hope that more and more sponsors and volunteers will join in to make the life of Ukraine’s seniors easier and more enjoyable in these difficult times.
